Blog
Welcome to the footnote¹ blog. Our goal each day is to examine a verse and give a short summary in commentary form or simply an encouraging note to help you remain faithful to God throughout the week. Either way we hope that the footnote¹ blog will comfort you through God's word and give you a better understanding of His will.
Are You a Friend of the World?
Monday, May 22, 2017“You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.” (James 4.4, ESV)¹

¹God has called us to take advantage of His love and to enjoy His blessings. However, we sometimes find ourselves enjoying evil desires and worldly pleasures - this causes us to become friends with the world - loving the world and its ways. Our decision to reject God’s love not only hurts our Creator and heavenly Father, but we choose to make ourselves enemies of Him. This choice will cause one to suffer eternally in hell.
John said, “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever” (1 John 2.15-17, ESV).

Eternal Life
Thursday, May 18, 2017
“in hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began” (Titus 1.2, ESV)¹
____________________________________
¹Prior to the creation of this world, eternal life in Christ Jesus was authored by God. This demonstrates just how much He loves us!
John says, “And this is the promise that he made to us—eternal life” (1 John 2.25, ESV). Only those who obey Jesus have this hope of eternal life. In fact, Jesus said “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life” (John 5.24, ESV).
Are you willing to listen to Jesus? Only then can you have eternal life! Contact Bryan Garlock, message us on Facebook, or text 903.308.4905 if you’re interested in learning more!
Remember Your Creator
Wednesday, May 17, 2017
“Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come and the years draw near of which you will say, ‘I have no pleasure in them’”. (Ecclesiastes 12.1, ESV)¹

¹How can you remember your Creator in the days of your youth?
- By choosing to read and study your Bible.
- By choosing good friends and avoiding those who practice wickedness.
- By choosing to stand up for God when no one else will.
- By choosing to pray and be thankful to God throughout the day.
- By choosing to love your enemies instead of wanting to fight them.
- By choosing to serve others, be kind to them, and respectful to all.
- By choosing to obey your teachers and other authority figures.
- By choosing to listen to our parents, honor them, and obey their commands.
There are many other things a young person can do to remember his or her Creator; however, we must maintain these things or else as we grow and experience sin and its deceptive motive, we have no desire for the things of God.
Are you young, but want to learn more about God’s will for your life? Contact Bryan Garlock, message us on Facebook, or text 903.308.4905.

We would love to help you study and grow. If you’re interested in learning more about guarding your heart, contact Bryan Garlock, message us on Facebook, or text 903.308.4905.
An Example to Believers
Monday, May 15, 2017
“Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” (1 Timothy 4.12, ESV)¹

¹Are you a young Christian? Then there is much work for you to do! Don’t ever think you’re not able to serve the Lord in your youth. Paul told Timothy, a young Christian, to set an example in the way you talk, the way you act, in the way you love and serve others, in the faith you have in God, and in your moral standing before God.
